Organizational Overview:
The mission of the Bergen County Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services is to raise awareness and assure that Bergen County Residents of all ages who need resources for mental health or substance use disorders have access to information and care regardless of ability to pay.
Job Description:
This employment opportunity is to serve as a Community Service Aide. Under direction, will perform a variety of routine field and office work involved in community-oriented programs. Will focus on but not limited to the community-oriented Suicide Awareness and Prevention programs designed to address the needs of Bergen County residents. They will support and promote education, awareness, prevention, treatment and recovery efforts relating to suicide prevention, mental health and substance use and other related duties as required.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assists in gathering/disseminating community relations information and aids in making community residents aware of existing programs available to them in areas related to mental health and addiction.
- Assists in the implementation and delivery of community-oriented service programs which benefit community residents.
- Meets with residents to help determine needs.
- May connect residents with appropriate resources.
- May attend community meetings or help organize community residents to work together to deal with specific community concerns.
- Attend meetings local and statewide to stay abreast of work going on in the state and to provide guidance and resources when asked for input.
- Attend relevant webinars and training to stay up to date on the latest research, data, resources and evidence informed programming and messaging.
- May disseminate information on various community-oriented resources.
- Refers information to appropriate agencies regarding needs for new/altered programs for community residents.
- Coordinate and facilitate suicide awareness and prevention training for a wide range of populations including schools, workplaces and community.
Schedule:
Per Diem up to 29 hours per week
Monday through Friday
Education Requirements: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree with a concentration in the field of human or social services is preferred, not required.
Other Requirements:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Teams, Word, Outlook and Excel programs.
- Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office or related units.
- Appointees will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey which is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
