3^RD ANNUAL BERGEN COUNTY’S STAR-SPANGLED SPECTACULAR RETURNS FOR JULY 4TH

Event to begin at 6:00 p.m.

Fireworks and performances by Super Trans Am and The Sugarhill Gang to proceed as scheduled

Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco, the Board of County Commissioners, and the Bergen 250 Initiative announce that due to the forecast of extreme heat and the potential for afternoon thunderstorms on Saturday, July 4, Bergen County has modified the schedule for its 3rd Annual Star-Spangled Spectacular at Overpeck County Park.

Out of an abundance of caution and with the safety of attendees, employees, performers, vendors, and volunteers as the County’s top priority, the event will now begin at 6:00 p.m. The revised schedule eliminates the afternoon portion of the celebration while preserving the evening’s featured performances and fireworks display.

REVISED ENTERTAINMENT SCHEDULE:

6:00 p.m. – National Anthem and Welcome Presentation
6:15 p.m. – Performance from Bergen PAC Idol winner Jackie Jesner
6:45 p.m. – Super Trans Am
8:15 p.m. – The Sugarhill Gang
9:30 p.m. – Fireworks (starts following the conclusion of the Ridgefield Park municipal fireworks)

NOTE: The New Jersey Wind Symphony performance originally scheduled for 2:00 p.m. will be rescheduled for a special performance at Overpeck County Park later this summer or fall. Additional details will be announced at a later date.

Bergen County’s Star-Spangled Spectacular is an official event of Bergen250, an initiative spearheaded by the Division of Cultural & Historic Affairs within the Bergen County Department of Parks aimed at commemorating the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution through Bergen County’s diverse lens of people, places, and culture.

Free event parking will be available at several locations throughout the Overpeck area for Bergen County’s Star-Spangled Spectacular.

Complimentary shuttle service to and from the Amphitheater at Overpeck County Park will be available from the following designated event parking locations:

RED SHUTTLE EVENT PARKING – Shuttle Available

BLUE SHUTTLE EVENT PARKING – Shuttle Available

Shuttle transportation is provided courtesy of Bergen County’s Division of Community Transportation and the Bergen County Technical & Special Services School District.

Shuttle buses from the designated shuttle parking locations will now operate continuously from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Guests utilizing shuttle parking who wish to attend the fireworks should plan to board a shuttle no later than 8:00 p.m., as shuttle service to the Amphitheater will pause until after the fireworks conclude.

Additional parking will also be available at the following locations; however, shuttle service will not be provided:

100 Challenger Road, Ridgefield Park
85 Challenger Road, Ridgefield Park
Leonia High School, 100 Christie Heights Street, Leonia

Guests parking at these locations should be prepared to walk to the event. Visitors parking at Leonia High School may either walk directly to the Amphitheater or walk to the Henry Hoebel Area to access the Blue Shuttle route.

Please note that Challenger Road will be closed to through traffic during the event. Access to the Challenger Road parking areas will remain available for event parking only.

For those wishing to enjoy the fireworks without entering the Amphitheater, the Henry Hoebel Area and other portions of Overpeck County Park offer excellent viewing opportunities. Arriving early is strongly recommended, as parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Bergen 250 Initiative

Bergen 250 is the County of Bergen’s official ad hoc committee tasked with commemorating the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution through Bergen County’s diverse lens of people, places, and culture. Through the joint efforts of Bergen County’s historic sites, schools, libraries, museums, community groups, and local businesses, the county seeks to advance the role that history plays in public discourse, community engagement, education, tourism, and scholarship in New Jersey. The initiative was formally codified by the County Board of Commissioners by resolution on January 17, 2024. The committee strives to promote the maximum involvement of Bergen County residents, neighborhoods, businesses, schools, historical and civic organizations, and institutions in the commemorations.

New Jersey Wind Symphony

Founded in 1983 as the Ridgewood Concert Band, the New Jersey Wind Symphony (NJWS) strives to promote wind music and adult bands to the surrounding community and beyond by providing high quality performances that engage and inspire all our listeners. NJWS members are accomplished wind and percussion players, with day jobs ranging from lawyer to band director, who volunteer their time and talents.

NJWS programs have drawn critical attention for their variety and depth – ranging from light classics and famous marches, to cutting edge new compositions by today’s brilliant composers. The NJWS is regularly joined by soloists from the New York Philharmonic, the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, and other nationally renowned performers and conductors. The NJWS has released multiple albums, has performed on the East Coast and overseas, and is actively engaged with area schools and young musicians. Super Trans Am Band

Super Trans Am is a high-energy tribute to the iconic music and pop culture of the 1970s. With top-tier musicianship and dynamic audiovisual production, the band performs classic hits from artists like Queen, The Eagles, Journey, Boston, and more—including soft rock favorites from the “Yacht Rock” era. Each band member takes turns on lead vocals, and select shows feature a photo op with a replica 1978 Smokey and the Bandit Trans Am. Perfect for festivals, fairs, theaters, and themed events, this show invites audiences of all ages to relive—or discover—the unforgettable sounds and spirit of the ’70s.

Sugarhill Gang

Bergen County natives, the Sugarhill Gang formed in 1979 and quickly became hip-hop’s first mainstream stars. Producer Sylvia Robinson created the group under Sugarhill Records, bringing together Wonder Mike, Big Bank Hank, and Master Gee.

They broke new ground with Rapper’s Delight, the first commercially successful rap single, which introduced hip-hop to a global audience. The group built on that success with tracks like Apache and “8th Wonder,” toured internationally, and became the first rap act to appear widely on television.

Their music laid the foundation for hip-hop’s rise into a global industry. Over time, their work has been widely sampled, and “Rapper’s Delight” earned recognition from Rolling Stone and preservation in the Library of Congress National Recording Registry.
