BERGEN COUNTY TO KICK OFF FALL 2025 REVOLUTIONARY WAR ROUNDTABLE SERIES
First Lecture to Spotlight Hackensack Native and Revolutionary Leader Richard Varick

Hackensack, NJ – Bergen250, the Bergen County Division of Cultural & Historic Affairs, and the County of Bergen invite the public and media to attend the kickoff of the Fall 2025 American Revolutionary War Roundtable Series on Wednesday, September 10 at 7:00 PM at the Bergen County Administration Building’s Learning Center, 4th Floor, 1 Bergen County Plaza, Hackensack.
The evening’s lecture, “Hackensack’s Own: The Life and Times of Lieutenant Colonel Richard Varick,” will be presented by Professor Keith Muchowski, librarian and faculty member at New York City College of Technology (CUNY).
Born in Hackensack in 1753, Varick was a Revolutionary War officer who served under generals including Philip Schuyler, Horatio Gates, Benedict Arnold, and George Washington. After the war, he became Mayor of New York City (1789–1801) and later served as president of the New York State Society of the Cincinnati for 25 years until his death in 1831.
For those unable to attend in person, the lecture will be recorded and published on the County of Bergen’s official YouTube channel following the event.
