The Bergen County Department of Health Services (BCDHS) plays a lead role in regional public health activities, in addition to being responsible for serving as Health Officer for 30+ contracted municipalities and authorities. Job Description:      

This employment opportunity will be to serve as the Director of Personal Health Services, a key leadership role in BCDHS and manager for the Office of Strategic Planning and Workforce Development within the Division of Public Health. Under direction, plans, develops, organizes, coordinates, directs and supervises all programs and activities of the Office of Strategic Planning and Work Force Development.

Job Responsibilities:              

  • Writes Federal or State grant applications and provides consultation and supervision in the preparation of continuation grant applications.
  • Monitors the expenditures of monies in contracts which provide for personal health services and negotiates new and continuing contracts for personal health services with the providers of such services.
  • Implements and evaluates personal health services programs through the enforcement of State guidelines for certified health services.
  • Develops training and education programs to enhance the Department’s skills and core competencies.
  • Identifies communities needs and creates a detailed plan for how to allocate resources and implement actions to achieve desired population health outcomes.
  • Establishes and maintains medical/public health records and files associated with personal health services.
  • Compiles, stores, retrieves and analyzes public health statistics relative to personal health programs and making recommendations for expanded or new health services.

Schedule:   

  • Full time (40 hours/week)

Education Requirements: 

  • Possession of a master’s degree from an accredited college or university in either public health or health care administration or health services administration or hospital administration or health sciences or public administration or business administration or human services administration 

Other Requirements:

  • Possession of a valid Health Officer License issued by the State of New Jersey Department of Health is preferred but not required.
  • Detailed working knowledge and experience in the field of Epidemiology is a plus
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and local public health laws, rules, regulations, ordinances, policies, standards, and procedures, and their application to specific situations.
  • Ability to analyze, comprehend, teach, interpret, and apply the rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures of the Department.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Appointees will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

Salary: $90,000/ per annum
