
Maintenance Repairer – Public Works – General Services
Organizational Overview:
The Bergen County Division of General Services is responsible for all County-owned and –leased buildings (excluding all Parks Department facilities). The Division is responsible for all improvements, maintenance and repairs, along with coordinated contracted services. All emergency repairs are responded to on a 24-hour per day, 7-day per week, 365-day per year basis. In addition, General Services’ staff is responsible for snow removal from walkways and parking areas connected to County-owned buildings and several leased properties.
Job Description:
This employment opportunity is to serve as the Maintenance Repairer in the Division of General Services. Under direction performs a variety of routine maintenance and repair tasks involved in masonry, plastering, carpentry, painting, plumbing, steamfitting, sheet metal, electrical, glazing, mechanical, and/or other types of maintenance work; does related work.
Job Responsibilities:
- Erects simple forms, mixes cement and aggregates, pours same, and does the finishing work involved in concrete structures.
- Patches and repairs brick and concrete structures.
- Repairs damaged plastered walls and ceilings.
- Spackles, and paints interior and exterior metal, wood, and masonry surfaces.
- Repairs plumbing stoppages and repairs leaks in copper, soil, and iron pipe.
- Replaces washers and gaskets and makes general service repairs.
- Does general sheet metal work involved in repairing roofs, drainboards, and rainspouts.
- Replaces light bulbs, fuses, wall plates, fixture cords, and switches.
- Replaces broken glass and reputties.
- Changes lubricants, refuels, and does light maintenance work on equipment and vehicles.
- Cleans tools and equipment.
- Keeps simple records.
Schedule:
- Full time (40 hours/week).
- Monday – Friday
- Overtime as needed
Education Requirements: High School Diploma
Other Requirements:
- Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Appointee will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

Salary: $35,360 – $50,500 / per annum
