ADVISORY – PARAMUS – TODAY
COUNTY EXECUTIVE TEDESCO AVAILABLE FOR MEDIA INTERVIEWS AHEAD OF WINTER STORM
PARAMUS, NJ – Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco will be available today at the Bergen County Department of Public Works Annex to discuss the County’s snow-removal and storm-response preparations ahead of an anticipated winter storm expected to impact Northern New Jersey Friday evening. The National Weather Service has issued an advisory that 4-8 inches of snow could fall between this evening and Saturday afternoon.
Bergen County maintains a fleet of more than 100 trucks equipped for salting and plowing, responsible for maintaining over 120 miles of County roadways as well as County parks and facilities. During snow events, the County typically deploys between 100 and 150 employees operating a 24-hour, in-house response supported by staff from the Departments of Public Works, Parks, and Public Safety. Depending on storm conditions, crews may operate on 12-hour shifts.
The County performs snow removal operations for seven contracted municipalities—Carlstadt, Lodi, Hackensack, Wyckoff, Franklin Lakes, Mahwah, and Skyline Drive in Oakland—and plows County roadways in Fort Lee and Cliffside Park, where local DPWs handle salting. For municipalities not directly plowed by the County, Bergen County DPW supplies salt and brine for County roads.
