LODI, NJ –The County of Bergen and the Bergen County Department of Public Works, Division of Community Transportation recently celebrated the addition of a new vehicle to the Community Transportation fleet. Bergen County Executive James J. Tedesco, III and representatives from the Bergen County Board of Commissioners visited the Community Transportation Garage in Lodi to thank staff members for their dedication.
Fully purchased by the Federal Transit Authority and NJ Transit, the $142,000 vehicle has the ability to seat 20 passengers as well as two (2) wheelchairs. With wheelchairs, the vehicle seats 16 passengers.
“Our Division of Community Transportation is a lifeline for our Bergen County seniors, veterans, and residents with limited mobility,” said Bergen County Executive Tedesco. “Without this service, many would have no way to get to critical medical appointments, like dialysis and cancer treatments. This new vehicle expands our capacity and ensures that we can continue to meet the needs of our community and keep our residents connected,” continued County Executive Tedesco.
“Expanding our Community Transportation fleet means more residents can access the essential services they rely on every day, from medical care to basic necessities,” said Bergen County Commissioner Tom Sullivan. “This investment strengthens our ability to deliver safe, dependable transportation while supporting the dedicated team that keeps Bergen County moving.”
Purchased using federal and state funding, the new vehicle is fully operated by the County of Bergen and has been equipped with County-owned cameras, speakers, GPS navigation systems, and other safety features.
The Bergen County Division of Community Transportation serves as a lifeline for many Bergen County residents, providing free transportation to lifesaving medical appointments, grocery trips, senior activity centers, and more. Last year alone, the Bergen County Division of Community Transportation logged over 1 million miles, providing rides to 190,422 Bergen County seniors, veterans, and residents with limited mobility.
