Community Service Aide – Division of Senior Services – Department of Human Services

Organizational Overview:

The Bergen County Division of Senior Services is the primary agency in Bergen County that plans and coordinates services for County residents age 60 and above, and their caregivers. The Division and its various committees advocate for those with the greatest economic and social needs.  The Division also provides support to various community-based organizations that promote the well-being and independence of Bergen County’s 220,000 older adults.

Job Description:           

This employment opportunity is to serve as the Community Service Aide of Elmwood Park Senior Activity Center. Under supervision, performs a variety of routine field and office work involved in community-oriented programs and assisting with all aspects of the senior center activities; does other related duties as required.

Job Responsibilities:              

  • Assists in the implementation and delivery of programs and activities which benefit community residents.
  • Meets with residents to help determine their home, financial, and social conditions which might qualify them for assistance with various agencies/programs.
  • May set up appointments for residents with appropriate public or private agencies.
  • May disseminate information on various community-oriented agencies.
  • Refers information to appropriate agencies regarding needs for new/altered programs for community residents.
  • Conducts surveys, gathers data/information, and projects anticipated problems concerning activities and changes in the community.
  • Monitors participants to ensure orderly conduct.
  • Responds quickly and appropriately to potentially hazardous situations; reports all incidents and accidents according to established procedures.
  • Assists with kitchen as needed.
  • Prepares reports.
  • Maintains essential records and files.
  • Performs other tasks and duties assigned by Center Director and Division Supervisors.

Schedule:   

  • Full time (35 hours/week) Monday through Friday 8:00AM – 3:30PM

Education and Experience Requirements:  

  • High School Diploma
  • Possession of an associate or bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in gerontology, sociology, social work or related field preferred
  • Two (2) years of experience in working with senior citizens preferred.

Other Requirements:

  • Appointees will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey to perform the essential duties of the position.
  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and computerized information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.

Salary: $32,500 / per annum
