Important Information For Primary 2026 Voters

The Deadline to register to vote in the 2026 Primary is MAY 12, 2026.

To register in New Jersey for the 2026 Primary, you must be:

  • A United States citizen
  • At least 17 years old but cannot vote until reaching the age of 18, except that you may vote in a primary election if you are 17 and will be 18 at the time of the following general election.
  • A resident of the county for 30 days before the election
  • A person not serving a sentence of incarceration as the result of a conviction of any indictable offense under the laws of this or another state or of the United States.

The registrant must complete a Voter Registration Application online at njelections.org or by mail or hand deliver the Voter Registration Application to the Bergen County Commissioner of Registration at 1 Bergen County Plaza, Room 380, Hackensack, NJ.

 You are not eligible to register to vote if:

  • You are not a United States Citizen
  • You are serving a sentence of Incarceration because of a conviction of an indictable offense under the laws of this or another state or of the United States.

The registration deadline to vote in the next election is 21 days prior to the election day.


Party change before the 2026 Primary:

The deadline to change your party to vote in the 2026 Primary was April 8, 2026.

Any registered voter who changes their party AFTER April 8, 2026, will be considered LATE and will NOT be eligible to vote in the 2026 Primary.
