COUNTY EXECUTIVE TEDESCO REQUESTS AFFORDABLE WORLD CUP TICKET ACCESS FOR BERGEN COUNTY RESIDENTS
HACKENSACK, NJ – Bergen County Executive James J. Tedesco III has sent a formal letter to NYNJ FIFA World Cup Host Committee CEO Alex Lasry requesting the creation of an affordable ticket access program for Bergen County residents during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
In the letter, County Executive Tedesco points to the recent announcement of a subsidized ticket initiative for New York City residents and urges the Host Committee to establish a similar arrangement for Bergen County, which will serve as the host county for eight matches at MetLife Stadium, including the Final.
“Bergen County residents will experience the day-to-day impacts of hosting this tournament more directly than perhaps any other community in the region,” Tedesco wrote. “For that reason, I believe it is important that Bergen County residents also have a meaningful opportunity to share in this historic experience.”
The County Executive’s letter highlights the significant role Bergen County municipalities, first responders, transportation personnel, businesses, and residents will play in supporting tournament operations and regional logistics throughout the World Cup.
Tedesco also noted that Bergen County residents will contend with increased traffic congestion, strained roadways, and heightened public safety demands associated with hosting one of the world’s largest sporting events.
The full letter was transmitted to the Host Committee on Friday afternoon.
