BERGEN COUNTY PRESENTS $100,000 CHECK TO HASBROUCK HEIGHTS FOR OPEN SPACE
Funds will go towards obtaining and installing new exercise equipment at Woodland Park.
(HACKENSACK, NJ) – On Monday, August 17, Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco, together with Commissioners Mary Amoroso, Rafael Marte, Germaine Ortiz, and Tracy Zur, along with Deputy Administrator Jared Lautz, Deputy Director of Parks Cheryl Krouse, and Acting Parks Director Craig Dorsett, presented a $100,000 check from the Open Space Trust Fund to Mayor Ron Kistner of Hasbrouck Heights.
These funds were awarded to the borough in the 2025 funding round of Bergen County’s Open Space Trust Fund’s Municipal Park Improvement Program and will go towards the installation of new exercise equipment at the southeast end of Woodland Park, next to the pavilion.
“The Open Space Trust Fund has been a cornerstone of sustainable park development for more than 25 years,” said County Executive Jim Tedesco. “We are grateful for the opportunity to continue improving the quality of life for Hasbrouck Heights residents, alongside the mayor & council, that will last for years to come.”
“This funding will help us make Woodland Park even more welcoming and useful for our residents,” said Hasbrouck Heights Mayor Ron Kistner. “I want to thank County Executive Tedesco and the Bergen County Commissioners for their continued partnership and investment in our community and for helping municipalities like Hasbrouck Heights make important improvements to our local parks.”
The trust fund was established in 1998, and through its lifetime, has supported hundreds of recreation development projects across Bergen County. Each of Bergen County’s seventy municipalities are eligible to receive funding to improve their municipal open space and recreation facilities. This program is designed to supplement local efforts and therefore requires a dollar-for-dollar match from the municipality.
“Our municipal parks are an important part of what makes Bergen County such a great place to live, and the Open Space Trust Fund allows us to work directly with our towns to improve these spaces for residents of all ages,” said County Commissioner Chair Steven A. Tanelli. “We are proud to support this project in Hasbrouck Heights and look forward to seeing these improvements at Woodland Park.”
