BERGEN COUNTY EXPANDS FIBER NETWORK TO ALPINE
Borough becomes latest municipality to connect to County-owned high-speed network
ALPINE, NJ – Bergen County Executive James J. Tedesco, III joined Alpine Mayor Paul Tomasko and local officials to mark the Borough of Alpine’s connection to the Bergen Fiber Network, continuing the County’s expansion of high-speed, publicly owned broadband infrastructure throughout Bergen County.
Through a shared service agreement with the County, Alpine is now utilizing Bergen Fiber to support municipal operations, giving the borough access to a secure and reliable high-speed connection through infrastructure owned and maintained by Bergen County.
“When we first began building out Bergen Fiber, the goal was to create an asset that could benefit not just County government, but communities throughout Bergen County,” said Bergen County Executive James J. Tedesco, III. “Every new connection brings us closer to that goal. I am proud to welcome Alpine to the network and thank Mayor Tomasko for recognizing the value of this partnership for the Borough and its residents.”
Rather than relying exclusively on commercial internet providers, Bergen Fiber allows participating municipalities to connect directly to the County’s growing fiber infrastructure. The network is designed to provide the speed and reliability necessary to support the increasing technology needs of modern government while creating opportunities for long-term savings.
“This partnership gives Alpine access to a reliable, high-speed network while allowing us to take advantage of infrastructure Bergen County has already invested in,” said Alpine Mayor Paul Tomasko. “I want to thank County Executive Tedesco and the County for continuing to expand Bergen Fiber and making this shared service available to municipalities like ours.”
The Bergen Fiber Network currently connects 48 County and municipal facilities across Bergen County, including borough halls, libraries, and utilities authorities, and continues to expand as additional municipalities enter into shared services agreements with the County. Alpine became the 31st municipality to enter into such an agreement.
“Investments in infrastructure should provide benefits that extend well beyond the County itself,” said Commissioner Mary Amoroso. “Bergen Fiber does exactly that by giving our municipal partners access to infrastructure that can improve their operations and make better use of taxpayer resources. We are excited to see Alpine become the latest community to join the network.”
