Organizational Overview:
The Bergen County Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services works to ensure that Bergen County residents of all ages who are experiencing mental health and/or substance use disorders have access to appropriate services and support. The Division promotes education, awareness, prevention, treatment, and recovery and connects residents with mental health and addiction resources available throughout Bergen County.
Job Description:
This employment opportunity is to serve as an Institutional Attendant within the Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services. Under direction, performs nonprofessional nursing duties involved in the care and custody of individuals; does other related duties as required. The role is assigned to a 24/7 residential treatment program. The Institutional attendant will receive formal clinical supervision and on-the-job training to develop the skills necessary to support women in recovery from substance use. They will assist individuals who need overnight support, ensure order is maintained in the facility. They will participate in life safety and emergency planning training activities and ensure procedures are followed during their shift. They will maintain records as warranted. The Institutional Attendant will learn the varied tasks involved in providing services while complying with applicable federal laws, State statutes and regulations, and Division policies and procedures.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assists individuals who have a substance use or opioid use disorder in their recovery.
- Maintains order and discipline within the institution and on the grounds.
- Provides guidance and oversight to groups of inmates and/or patients engaged in sweeping, mopping, and polishing of floors, making beds, washing dishes, and in doing other routine duties.
- Participates in patient engagement activities.
- Work harmoniously with team, clients and community.
- Assists in leading group and individual patient activities including games, exercises, or trips.
- Conducts urine drug screens, breathalyzer tests, and alcohol swab testing for clients.
- Attend and take part in training and meetings as assigned.
- Participates in life safety and emergency planning activities.
- Prepares reports and routine correspondence, documents according to policy and procedure in program records in a timely manner.
- Maintains essential records and files.
- Provides transportation for clients as needed and assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
Schedule:
- Full-Time (40 hours/week) Overnight Shift.
- Applicants must be able to work overnight shift, weekends and holidays.
- Mandatory overtime is possible.
Education Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Other Requirements:
- Valid New Jersey Driver’s License.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.

Salary: $41,000 per annum plus eligible for shift differential
