Biography

Commissioner Rafael Marte has been a public servant for most of his life. As a social worker for Westchester Department of Social Services and as a Councilman in Bergenfield for two terms. Commissioner Marte has always been a champion for all. He holds a deep connection to his heritage, and in 2019, founded the Dominican Cultural Association of New Jersey to promote and preserve Dominican Culture. 

Rafael immigrated to the United States from the Dominican Republic in 1974. He has been living in Bergenfield, New Jersey for over 30 years. He graduated from the Architectural program at Manhattan Vocational Technical High School and went on to attend the City College of New York to study architecture and economics. 

Rafeal has been married to his wife Natalia Herrera-Marte for 32 years and is the father of four wonderful children. His eldest son is married and has three children of his own. His second oldest son graduated from John Jay College of Criminal Justice in 2023 with a degree in Forensic Psychology. His daughter is pursuing a career in education at Ramapo College, and finally, his youngest son graduates from Bergenfield High School in the Spring of 2026 and is planning to attend the Bergen County Police Academy.  Commissioner Marte looks forward to continuing his pursuit of serving his community as a County Commissioner and brings decades of experience in public administration and social services.
