Clerk 1 – Division of Child Care Resources – Department of Human Services

The mission of the Division of Child Care Resources is to empower Bergen County families by enabling them to provide their children with high-quality childcare that fosters healthy childhood development. Additionally, they are committed to supporting the childcare community through comprehensive education and training programs.

Job Description:           

This employment opportunity will be to serve as Clerk 1 for the Division of Child Care Resources. Under close supervision, performs routine, repetitive clerical work involving the processing of documents in a variety of functions; does other related duties as required.

Job Responsibilities:              

  • Answer a high-volume switchboard; Provides general, routine information; refers complicated or non-routine inquiries to appropriate staff.
  • Greet clients, receive documents, scan materials into electronic systems, and assist with basic inquiries.
  • Receives applications, documents, forms and fees; screens, sorts and assembles this information for further processing. 
  • Perform general office tasks: typing, word processing, filing, copying, scanning, faxing, and mailing.
  • Enter and retrieve data in electronic systems.
  • Sort, index, and file materials according to established filing systems.
  • Opens, time stamps, sorts, numbers, and distributes mail; prepare outgoing mail and packages.
  • Compile simple information, perform basic arithmetic calculations, and help prepare routine reports.
  • Maintain records, logs, mailing lists, and office supplies.
  • Operates various types of office equipment (copiers, printers, scanners, postage machines) and may perform simple maintenance tasks such as adding toner, paper or changing ribbons. 
  • Provide clerical support to Subsidy, Fiscal, or other program units as needed.
  • Learn and apply office procedures specific to assigned areas (court, tax, personnel, etc., where applicable).

Schedule:   

  • Per Diem (20 hours per week)
  • Weekdays

Education Requirements: High School Diploma

Other Requirements:

  • Bilingual English – Spanish is preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Teams, Word, Outlook and Excel programs.
  • Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office or related units.
  • Appointees will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
