Mail Clerk – Public Works – General Services

Organizational Overview:

The Bergen County Division of General Services is responsible for all County-owned and –leased buildings (excluding all Parks Department facilities).  The Division is responsible for all improvements, maintenance and repairs, along with coordinated contracted services.  All emergency repairs are responded to on a 24-hour per day, 7-day per week, 365-day per year basis.  The County owns and General Services is responsible for facilities and leased properties throughout the County.  In addition, General Services’ staff is responsible for snow removal from walkways and parking areas connected to County-owned buildings and several leased properties.

Job Description:           

This employment opportunity is to serve as the Mail Clerk in the Division of General Services. Under close supervision of a supervisor, performs routine work concerned with delivering, receiving, sorting, distributing, and preparing a volume of mail; does other related duties as required.

Job Responsibilities:              

  • Does routine work concerned with receipt, sorting, and distributing of interoffice and US mail.
  • Performs routine work involved with receipt, date stamping, and intradepartment distribution of incoming letters/packages.
  • Ensures that proper signatures are obtained where necessary.
  • Does routine work concerned with folding, inserting, sealing, and labeling operations.
  • Performs basic maintenance/repair work on related machines.
  • Makes regular/special runs for intradepartment collections of outgoing mail.
  • May drive, load, and unload the mail truck.
  • Prepares outgoing mail for delivery to a state/local department post office.
  • May weigh, stamp, and deliver outgoing mail directly to the United States Postal Service.
  • Maintains records and files.
  • Ability to carry and lift up to 50 pounds.

Schedule:   

  • Per Diem (up to 29 hours a week)  Monday – Friday

Education Requirements: High School Diploma

Other Requirements:

  • Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
  • Fluent proficiency in English reading and writing.
  • Valid New Jersey Driver’s License.
