The Bergen County Department of Health seeks to coordinate and assure the preservation, protection, and promotion of the health, wellbeing, and quality of life for all.  The Division of Public Health provides critical nursing, health promotion, strategic public health planning, and workforce development.

Job Description:           

This employment opportunity will be to serve as the Supervisor of Nurses. Under the direction of Health Department administration, the Supervisor of Nurses oversees the public health nursing operations of the Bergen County Department of Health and directs the assignment and activities of nursing staff.  This role is a key leadership role in the Division of Public Health, assisting in directly providing health services to County residents, as well as participating in public health planning activities; does other related duties.

Job Responsibilities:              

  • Analyzes, evaluates, and implements public health nursing programs and makes recommendations for improvement or development.
  • Provides recommendations for staffing in units and participates in determining qualifications for personnel.
  • Participates in developing a program of orientation and in-service training for nursing staff, develops and implements policies for nursing staff.
  • Prepares and supervises the preparation of requisitions for medication, equipment and supplies. Participates in dispensing of vaccinations or other medications as part of the Bergen County Department of Human Services (BCDHS) nursing activities
  • Assists, confers, and plans with other divisions in the department to coordinate, evaluate and recommend for implementation of complete program.
  • Prepares and/or supervises the preparation of reports and surveys.
  • Provides clinical oversight for the Community Outreach Integrated Service (COIS) project.
  • Participates in the preparation of the annual budget, tracks and makes recommendations on budget expenditures.
  • Participates in nursing-related grant application processes and oversight of nursing-related grants.
  • Evaluates employee performance and conduct periodic reviews enabling the effective recommendation of the hiring, firing, promoting, disciplining and development of employees.

Schedule:    Full time (40 hours/week).  On-call availability required.

Experience Requirements:   

  • Three (3) years of experience as a registered professional nurse, one (1) year of which shall have included the supervision of direct care nursing staff.

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must possess a current, valid license as a registered professional nurse in the State of New Jersey.
  • NOTE: Appointees will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
  • Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and computerized information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.

Salary: $100,000 / per annum
