BERGEN COUNTY CELEBRATES PAKISTANI HERITAGE

Hosts Flag Raising Ceremony, Honors Community Members

HACKENSACK, NJ – On Thursday, August 14, the County of Bergen hosted its Annual Independence Day of Pakistan Celebration and Flag Raising Ceremony in the Two Bergen County Conference Center in partnership with the Cultural Society of Bergen County, Love Pakistan, and Mom’s Food Pantry.

This is the County of Bergen’s third annual Independence Day of Pakistan Celebration and Flag Raising Ceremony. The Independence Day of Pakistan is observed each year on August 14th and commemorates the date in 1947 when British rule in Pakistan came to an end, and the country was declared a sovereign state.

Bergen County Executive James J. Tedesco III issued a proclamation recognizing August 14, 2025, as Independence Day of Pakistan. The proclamation was presented to Community Welfare Attache of the Consulate General of Pakistan in New York, Mr. Abdul Latif, who also delivered special remarks.

Welcome remarks were given by Dr. Ghazala Arshad of the Cultural Society of Bergen County.   

Attendees enjoyed cultural performances by Dholi Jarnail Singh, Yasser, and Nuzhat Ahmed. Closing remarks were delivered by Bergen County Board of Commissioners Chairwoman Mary Amoroso.

The event culminated in the raising of the Pakistani flag as Nuzhat Ahmed performed the Pakistan National Anthem.

The County also presented “2025 Pakistan Outstanding Service Contribution Awards” to community members who have exhibited outstanding commitment and honor to Bergen County’s Pakistani community.

Refreshments for the event were generously donated by Dera Restaurant.
