BERGEN COUNTY TO HOST PUBLIC HEARING ON NEEDS OF OLDER ADULTS

Department of Human Services, Division of Senior Services/ADRC to gather testimony regarding Bergen County senior population

HACKENSACK, N.J. – Bergen County Executive James J. Tedesco III, the Bergen County Board of Commissioners, and the Bergen County Department of Human Services announce that the County’s Division of Senior Services/ADRC will host its Annual Public Hearing on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at 9:00 AM in the 5th Floor Public Meeting Room of the County Administration Building.

In accordance with the Older Americans Act, this Public Hearing is held annually to gather information and testimony on the needs of older adults in Bergen County. Residents and organizations are invited to speak or provide written testimony expressing their thoughts and/or concerns pertaining to the County’s senior population.

“Older adults make up more than 20% of our County’s population, which is why it is essential that we understand their needs and how we can best deliver for them,” said Bergen County Executive Tedesco. “I encourage community members to attend this important hearing and share their thoughts, experiences, and concerns. This testimony will allow us to continue to support our older adults with the dignity and respect they deserve,” continued Tedesco.

“Listening to our older residents and those who support them is a key part of how we plan and deliver services,” said Bergen County Commissioner Pro Tempore Dr. Joan Voss. “This hearing gives us a chance to hear directly from the community and make sure our programs are aligned with the needs of Bergen County’s senior population.”

“Our older residents are the foundation of Bergen County, and their voices guide the work we do every day,” said Melissa H. DeBartolo, Esq., Director of the Bergen County Department of Human Services.  “This annual hearing is an important opportunity for us to listen directly to the community so we can continue shaping programs and services that truly meet the needs of our aging population. We encourage residents, caregivers, and partner organizations to share their experiences and insights so we can strengthen the supports that help older adults live with dignity, independence, and connection.”

Admission to the hearing is free and open to all, but advanced registration is strongly encouraged. Participants providing oral testimony will have five (5) minutes to speak. All written testimony must be submitted to the Bergen County Division of Senior Services prior to May 5, 2026. Individuals bringing prepared statements must bring ten (10) copies to be distributed to the panel.
