‘UNITED WE SERVE BERGEN’ LAUNCHES AHEAD OF AMERICA’S
250TH ANNIVERSARY
Countywide initiative will connect volunteers with local organizations and historic sites from April 18–26
HACKENSACK, N.J. – Bergen County Executive James J. Tedesco, III and the Bergen County Board of Commissioners, in partnership with the Bergen 250 Initiative, today announced the launch of United We Serve Bergen, a countywide Week of Service taking place April 18–26, 2026, as part of the County’s broader commemoration of America’s 250th Anniversary.
The initiative will connect residents with volunteer opportunities across Bergen County, including projects at community organizations, food pantries, historic sites, and parks.
“United We Serve is about turning commemoration into action,” said Commissioner Tracy Zur. “It’s about reconnecting with our neighbors and double downing to support each other. As we remember that this began with “We the People” there’s no better way to honor our past than by securing our future. Rolling up our sleeves to help each other and our community fortifies our civic foundation.”
United We Serve Bergen offers organizations, students, corporate groups, and county residents the opportunity to participate in service projects aimed at improving and preparing their sites for upcoming commemorative programming, while also addressing broader community needs.
“Bergen County has always stepped up when it matters most,” said County Executive James J. Tedesco III. “As we prepare to celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary, United We Serve is an opportunity to bring people together, give back to our communities, and put the values we’re celebrating into action. This is about service, community, and making sure every resident has a chance to be part of this milestone.”
United We Serve Bergen offers organizations, students, corporate groups, and county residents the opportunity to participate in service projects aimed at reinvigorating our recommitment to each other and addressing broader community needs.
Bergen County is encouraging residents, families, civic groups, schools, and local businesses to participate by volunteering, hosting a project, or partnering with local organizations. The initiative offers a valuable opportunity for students to earn community service hours while getting to know their neighbors and bolstering the connective tissue of our community, and for corporate partners to support team-based volunteer efforts that give back to the communities they serve. The Week of Service is designed to be accessible and flexible, with opportunities available across the County to meet a wide range of interests and schedules.
Projects span from outdoor environmental clean ups and beautification efforts to collection drives and hands-on projects to support our food pantries, veterans, and seniors.
Organizations interested in hosting a service project or residents looking to volunteer can learn more and sign up by visiting www.unitedweservebergen.org.
