Members of the media are invited to Overpeck County Park on Monday, November 17th at 9:45 a.m. for the County’s Office of Food Security fresh produce distribution in partnership the Community Food Bank of New Jersey. Over 90,000 pounds are expected to be sorted and distributed to over 40 food pantries in Bergen County.

As the federal government shutdown stretches into its fifth week, leaving tens of thousands of Bergen County residents without timely SNAP benefits and federal employees without paychecks, the County of Bergen and the Community FoodBank of New Jersey will host an emergency food distribution to support those impacted.

Bergen County officials are reassuring voters that all polling locations across the County are safe and open following a series of fraudulent bomb threats made earlier today. Law enforcement responded swiftly, thoroughly checking each location and confirming that no suspicious items or credible threats were found.

As the federal government shutdown stretches into its fifth week, Bergen County will host an emergency food distribution event on Thursday, November 6th at Overpeck County Park in Leonia to assist SNAP recipient households and furloughed federal employees impacted by the ongoing crisis.

Due to the ongoing federal government shutdown, nearly 42,000 residents in Bergen County who rely on SNAP benefits will not receive them on time in November. In response, the Bergen County Office of Food Security is working closely with municipal and nonprofit partners to organize emergency food drives to support local food pantries in towns across the county.
