Community Cats Program
To help control the feral cat population and provide a healthier lifestyle for outdoor cats, the Bergen County Animal Shelter and Adoption Center’s Community Cats Program offers residents of our contracted towns the service of trapping, spay, or neuter and vaccination services for these cats. Bergen County Animal Control will facilitate the trapping of cats with residents and provide transportation to and from the shelter to provide the one-time medical treatment of vaccinating and spay and neutering.
Community cats can be found just about everywhere that people live. These outdoor, free-roaming cats live in and are cared for by the community, hence the term “community cats.”
Vaccinating and spaying or neutering them, then returning them to their outdoor homes, is the best way to manage the population and to respect the bond their caregivers have with them.
